Native CAT tools cannot natively import Adobe Illustrator (.ai) files. AI2Translation bridges that gap. Built as a seamless Adobe Illustrator Extension, it allows you to export your entire document's text as a clean XML file, ready for any modern CAT tool. Crucially, the XML preserves your rich formatting—including font families, weights, subscripts, and superscripts.

Once your XML is translated, a single click imports the localized text right back into your Illustrator file. Your original formatting is fully preserved and applied to the new language. Need to scale? Use our batch import feature and automatically verify if your imported language characters are supported by your current fonts before you finalize the document.

System Compatibility

Operating System: Fully compatible with both macOS and Windows environments.

Adobe Illustrator: Requires Adobe Illustrator 2022 (version 26.0) or newer.

Workflow Guidelines & Limitations

Strict File Mapping: The translated XML file must be imported back into the exact same Illustrator document (.ai) that originally generated the export. Importing into a different file will cause the process to fail.

Style Management: During the export and import process, character and paragraph styles will be automatically renamed by the extension to ensure proper data mapping between Illustrator and your CAT tool.

Bullets & Numbering: Due to current API limitations within Adobe Illustrator's core architecture, automated bullets and numbering are not exposed to the extension's code and cannot be exported to the XML. Those should be recreated after importing the XML.
